Spotlight on a Rheumatology Unit
Autumn 2013: This article follows a week in the life of the rheumatology educators team at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Spring 2012: The Rheumatology service in York was initially developed under the guidance of Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Martin Iveson. Due to an increase in service need and continued advances in treatments for Rheumatology patients the team has grown.
Winter 2011: A new, 3 year £1.2 million contract was awarded for the delivery of community based Rheumatology services across the borough. The contract was awarded to a consortium involving NHS Telford & Wrekin Community Health Services and its partners Shropdoc and the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Autumn 2011: The Queen's Hospital Foundation Trust, Burton, serves a population of about 250, 000 yet despite this, had no specialist rheumatology services until the arrival of Dr Mohamed Nisar in 1995.
Spring 2010: In 2003, West Sussex Hospital set up an Early Arthritis clinic (EAC) to minimise the delay from onset to treatment and to get the best response as soon as possible.
