Refer a patient to NRAS

NRAS works in partnership with the NHS to offer its information and support services to patients who have rheumatoid arthritis (RA). As a Health Professional, all you have to do is submit a quick form to refer your patient to NRAS. We take care of the rest!

I am ready to refer a patient

Since lockdown, I have not been able to see patients as I would like so I have referred more patients to NRAS. My patients have given really positive feedback and said the phone call from NRAS is really useful! They have come away with new ideas and no longer feel as alone.

Christina Macleod, Occupation Therapist

I was advised by the doctor to become a part of New2RA RightStart service. It was the best thing I have done in a very long time! What a fantastic team they have.

Carol, who has RA

Whilst the medical team were extremely expert, they were also really busy. The RA Specialist Nurse put me in touch with NRAS .. they provided me with telephone support and a lot of information, support and experiences of others.

About our referral service

Getting the right support for RA can help people make positive adjustments to their perception of the condition, behaviour towards medicines, day-to-day lifestyle and overall health beliefs. We want to help them understand why self-management is important and how to make those important first steps in managing their disease effectively.

Once you refer a patient to NRAS, we get in touch and offer them an extensive range of information and support. If the patient is newly diagnosed, we provide them with the New2RA Right Start service. If the patient has had RA for a period of time, more than 1 year, we provide them with the Living with RA service. Both services are largely similar but each takes into account the patient’s age of diagnosis and provides them with the most relevant information.

How your patient will benefit

By referring your patient(s) to NRAS, you will be sign-posting them to friendly, empathetic, expert staff, tailored support that is evidence-based and peer support at an individual and/ or community level. Your patients will:

  • Better understand what RA is
  • Know how RA can affect them
  • Get the right support
  • Feel more in control
  • Get a tailored pack of information that meets their personal needs
  • Talk to a like-minded person who has lived with RA

Don’t just take our word for it! See what some patients and Health Professionals have to say about the referral service. Watch the video below.

In summary

Here is how the service works in four simple steps:

  1. Refer your patient(s)
  2. Your patient will be contacted by NRAS and a phone call will be scheduled between the patient and our trained Helpline Team.
  3. The NRAS Helpline Team will speak to your patient and talk through everything that is concerning them, providing explanation about medications, the disease, and whatever else they wish to discuss. At the end of the call, your patient will be sent a customised pack of information relevant to their specific needs
  4. Your patient will be asked if they wish to speak to others with RA (more info).
