Local Groups

Please read - Urgent statement from NRAS

Dear all

We’ve had many, many discussions in the office and with our medical advisors etc. about COVID-19 as I’m sure you’re not at all surprised about.

As you will all be aware those with immune mediated conditions like RA are more at risk of contracting viruses anyway so it is only wise to take extra precautions until the spread of coronavirus can be brought under control.  Even if you are feeling well and showing no symptoms it is prudent to avoid gatherings of people if they are not absolutely necessary. Therefore NRAS has advised that all group meetings should be cancelled until further notice. While we appreciate this is not ideal we do feel as a health charity we must lead by example and we certainly do not want to put any of you at risk of catching COVID-19. Already we are seeing medical conferences being cancelled as we also have an obligation to keep our already overworked and stretched health professionals safe. Many nurses and consultants are already being required to support their colleagues in other departments to handle any outbreaks in their hospitals.

Please do continue to check our website for up to date information as to when local group meetings will reconvene.

Finally, do familiarise yourself with our COVID-19 statement on the website which we will keep updated and I personally want to wish you all well and hope that none of you catch coronavirus but if you do I wish you a speedy recovery.

Warmest regards

Many people find meeting others living with RA from their own localities to be of great benefit. NRAS groups are a great source of ongoing information and education. How else will you know about local services available to you? Wouldn’t it be nice to meet some of your rheumatology health professionals in a non-clinical setting? How would it feel to be able to influence future rheumatology service provision by being part of a strong patient voice in your area? NRAS groups aim to encourage better disease self management via informative guest speakers.

In addition to NRAS groups there are other patient events/activities and meetings across the UK which we are able to signpost people to however NRAS do not necessarily have any direct input into such external meetings. Please look on the map or select your region to find your nearest group and see details of future meetings. If you are unable to find something near you or if you are interested in becoming an NRAS Volunteer Group Co-ordinator and would like information about setting up a group in your area then please call 01628 823 524 or email the Volunteer Network at volunteers@nras.org.uk.

Our groups are run by Volunteers and to protect their privacy we are unable to give out their personal contact details (unless otherwise stated on the group information). If you would like more information about any individual group please contact NRAS on 01628 823 524 or groups@nras.org.uk and we will pass on your details to the group leader to contact you directly.
