Raise Funds in your Local Community
How about organising your own event, getting involved in an activity being held locally, or deciding to set yourself your own challenge... However you choose to raise funds for NRAS it WILL make a difference to people living with RA, their families and carers.
Whether it's getting involved with a local community activity or organising your own event, fundraising should be fun and it's a great way of raising awareness.
Activities in your local area
There is always something you can do to raise money for NRAS. Take part in a local run, sponsored swim or cycle ride, take a stall at your local market or fete and sell cakes or second hand books. If you're not sure what you want to do, download our
fundraising pack for lots of ideas and tips. Or think of your own idea and tell us what you are doing!

Elaine took part in a sponsored swim at her local pool
'I am so pleased that I was able to do some fundraising for NRAS. I have been a member for 2 years and see how much hard work, help and support you offer to people like me living with RA. Doing the swim was a personal achievement - it has helped to increase my fitness and kept me in positive mind mode!'
Ada

m took part in a 10K run, along with 25 of his friends, who he managed to persuade to join in the fun!
'
We all took part in the Knowle Fun Run in memory of my aunt who had RA and sadly passed away in December 2008. She was a wonderful woman and never complained about her condition. There were a number of people in the team who didn't normally run but my aunt inspired us all.'
Organise Your Own Event
How about a Christmas Ball, New Years Eve Party, Art and Craft Display, Race Night, Music Festival... the list is never ending! If you would like to discuss holding an event in aid of NRAS

Victoria o

rganised a ball for the London Young Lawyers Group, which she is part of, and donated all proceeds to NRAS
'I wanted to organise an event to raise awareness and funds for NRAS as my mum had lived with the disease for so long and I have seen at first hand how debilitating it can be. It was a real challenge pulling the event together but really satisfying and a great sense of achievement.'

Peter, whose daughter-in-law has RA, chose to organise a charity golf day at his golf club
'59 players turned out in changeable weather conditions to take part in what was a great fun day. I was staggered by the amount raised and I am very grateful to all the golfers who supported the day. It was worth all the effort.'
Challenge Yourself
Give up a treat - wine, chocolate, beer, get sponsored to lose weight or shave your head or even jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet!

Emma decided to set herself the ultimate challenge and do a freefall tandem jump from 13,000 feet!
'
I was really nervous beforehand but once I was in the plane there was no turning back! Freefalling was an amazing experience and I even got to guide the parachute back down to landing. It's definitely something that everyone should do, even if you think you would never be able to do it. I will certainly be doing it again and hope to raise more funds for NRAS.'
Collection Boxes

Do you know a local shop which would be willing to have an NRAS collection box on the counter? Are you a member of a local club or community group which would be happy to have a collection box? Would you be prepared to help us with supermarket collections or high street collections in your local area? This is a great way of helping and of raising awareness too.
We are are always looking for volunteers to help us with these roles so if you can help please get in touch!
