Elaine qualified from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast in 1990 and for very brief periods worked in abdominal surgery, care of the elderly and orthopaedics. She has been in rheumatology for the last 15 years and was responsible for the development of the Rheumatology Nurse Specialist role within the Belfast area.
Elaine’s specific interests in rheumatology are inflammatory arthritis, patient and family education and support, along with staff training and development. She also plays an active role in the development of the rheumatology service in Northern Ireland.
As chair of ARMA Northern Ireland she has been involved with the Standards of Care Project nationally and locally in the successful campaign for adequate funding for biologic therapies. Elaine sits on the Royal College of Nursing Rheumatology Forum committee. She has a keen interest in research and has presented a variety of papers locally, nationally and internationally. Most recently she has facilitated the development of rheumatology nursing in Jesi, Italy.
Elaine is married to John who is a Meteorologist. In her spare time she enjoys walking, the theatre and travel.
