Kuntal was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist after finishing his training in Cambridge, Norwich and Oxford region in 1994. He is an Ex- Council member of the British Society for Rheumatology and Vice-Chairman of the Standard Audit and Guideline Working Group of the BSR.

He is the Ex-Chairman of the Evidence Based Practice committee, member of the Clinical Governance and Drugs & Therapeutics committee besides Research & Development of the Barking Havering and Red Bridge University Hospital NHS Trust, Romford, Essex. He is actively engaged in many national and International research programmes. He was the founder member of the Essex Rheumatology Association and the Essex Vasculitis Research association in late 1990s and also founded the local patient support group for vasculitis in Essex, William Godfrey Vasculitis patient support group. He has recently been instrumental towards the establishment of Roy-Alavoine Vasculitis and Scleroderma Foundation in Essex, in 2009.
