Dr. Stefan Siebert, MBBCh, MRCP, PhD

Dr Siebert graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and then worked in Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town. He came to Wales in 1996 and trained as a rheumatologist in Cardiff. During this time he studied inflammation associated with mutations in TNF receptors, which formed the basis for his PhD thesis.

In March 2006 he was appointed to his current post as Senior Lecturer in Rheumatology, which includes research and teaching the Graduate Entry Medical students at the new medical school in Swansea. He is involved in the development of an e-learning module for both undergraduate students and junior doctors. His wide clinical interests include autoinflammatory syndromes, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory conditions in general. He has a variety of research interests, including mechanisms of disease and the effects of changes in service delivery. He is currently leading attempts to establish a Welsh arthritis research network, which has increased patient involvement in both service delivery and research at its core.
