Christopher
trained in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where I was an Arthritis Research
Campaign Junior Research Fellow, gaining an MD thesis on the Genetic
Epidemiology of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I continued this research as a
Medical Research Council Travelling Fellow to Berkeley, California, in
1993. In 1993 I also moved to Nottingham for my first Consultant job. I
was attracted to a new job in Derby in 2003 with a major commitment to
teaching both undergraduates and the Graduate Entry Students at the new
medical school in Derby.
Until recently I was the BSR
representative on the BHPR Council. I am currently Vice Chairman of the
Clinical Affairs Committee, and will take over as Chairman of this
committee at the BSR AGM in May. I have been appointed as Clinical
Advisor to the NICE Rheumatoid Arthritis Management Guidelines, work
for which starts in June 2007. I am an Associate Editor of
“Rheumatology”.
My research interests are the therapeutics of inflammatory arthritis, guideline development and medical education.
