Dr Andrew Bamji

Dr Andrew Bamji is a consultant in rheumatology and rehabilitation at
Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, Kent. He was an undergraduate at the
Middlesex Hospital, London and qualified in 1973. Following SHO posts
at the Hammersmith and Brompton Hospitals he spent two years as a
medical registrar in Bath before returning to the Middlesex as a
rheumatology registrar.
He joined the Senior Registrar rotation at the Middlesex, with
attachments at Northwick Park Hospital, the Royal National Orthopaedic
Hospital, The National Hospital Queen Square and Garston Manor Medial
Rehabilitation Centre. He obtained a post at the Brook Hospital,
Woolwich and Queen Mary's in 1983, moving full-time to Queen Mary's in
1989. Dr Bamji has particular interests in rheumatoid arthritis and
shoulder disorders.
He is also Director of the Elmstead
Rehabilitation Unit at Queen Mary's and has been an Associate Medical
Director and Clinical Tutor. He has been involved for most of his
career in specialty politics; he was Chair of the Clinical Affairs
Committee of the British Society for Rheumatology from 1998 to 2001 and
president 2006-8. Outside rheumatology Dr Bamji has a particular
interest in medicine and surgery of the Great War and is Curator,
Gillies Archives at Queen Mary's. He enjoys gardening, collecting
antiques, writing poetry and playing the pianola.
