Wendy’s Story

Spring 2010: Wendy Dunn, NRAS Member

I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for about three years. When I was having the flare ups it would be difficult, but nothing was too much of a problem.

In 2007 I was elected on to a committee to run a local Scout Group. I found this brilliant as it gave me an opportunity to see how far I can push myself and my condition. At this moment in time nothing serious has happened.

Further on from that, I started training to become an Assistant Scout Leader for the same local Scout Group. I am loving it. Yet again, I am pushing myself and my condition to the limit. I have had some hiccups along way, but yet again nothing too serious.

Having this condition does not stop you from doing things; even though I do appreciate it can get difficult with the pain and stiffness. I am also quite tired at the end of meetings.

Wendy, with her son, has started training to become an Assistant Scout Leader

Do not sit back. Do get out and get on with your life. Don’t give in to RA.

I appreciate I am in a fantastic position with brilliant support. I also know I have a brilliant Rheumatologist, his name is Professor Kitas.

Sometimes it is not easy being a mother of a nine year old, but yet again you need to carry on a normal life as possible, just to keep a stable family life going.
