Pilot study shows 90% remission in

early rheumatoid arthritis

Taken from NRAS magazine, Winter 2008

People in the study had a mean DAS28 of 5.3 and mean disease duration of 3 months. Intensive combination therapy called COBRA was combined with monitoring of both disease activity and cartilage degradation.

COBRA therapy is made up of a variety of DMARDS including sulfasalazine, methotrexate, prednisolone, hydroxychloroquine and infliximab.

90% (19 of 21) of the people were in remission after 40 weeks. Remission was defined as a DAS28 score of less than 2.6.

This small pilot study suggests that intensified and tightly controlled COBRA therapy is effective in early RA.
