New study shows Humira® (Adalimumab)

can help children with juvenile idiopathic

arthritis (JIA)

Taken from NRAS magazine, Winter 2008

Children aged between 4 and17 with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) who had failed on a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory were given adalimumab (brand name Humira) subcutaneously every other week for 16 weeks. After this, some children continued with the adalimumab while the rest were offered a placebo.

After being treated with adalimumab for 16 weeks, of the children also receiving methotrexate, 94% enjoyed an improvement in the symptoms and of those not receiving methotrexate 74% improved.

The research team concluded that adalimumab therapy seems to be an efficacious option for the treatment of children with JIA.
