Head-to-Head Trial Scheduled for Cimzia and Humira

Pharmaceutical company UCB have announced that they are going to carry out a head-to-head trial, comparing their drug, certolizumab pegol (Cimzia) against Abbott’s drug, adalimumab (Humira). This will be the first industry sponsored head-to-head trial looking at 2 different anti-TNF drugs.
The trial will compare people who have responded inadequately to methotrexate and not yet had anti-TNF therapy. They will then receive methotrexate with either Cimzia or Humira for a period of 12 weeks, after which those that have responded well enough will continue up to the full 104 weeks.
UCB chief medical officer Iris Loew-Friedrich commented that "we believe the study will provide additional evidence that the ability to make an informed and early treatment decision is important for the treatment of this severe and progressing disease."
